People over the age of 65 in the Stockholm Region who refused Astra Zeneca’s vaccine against covid-19 were told that they would not be offered another vaccine. The Ombudsman (JO) received just over 20 reports against the region after the decision.
The Chief Justice Ombudsman is now criticizing the Stockholm Region for the decision, and believes that it is contrary to both the Health Care Act and the Patient Act.
According to these laws, a patient can choose the alternative he prefers, when there are several treatment options that are in accordance with science and proven experience. In this case, vaccination should be covered by the concept of treatment alternatives, the Ombudsman believes.
