The official Pro Controller for the PS5 currently costs less than 200 euros – is it worth it or are there better options?

Thanks to Black Friday, you can get the Pro Controller for the PS5 for just 50 euros cheaper. But is it even worth it? MeinMMO looked at the offer.

What kind of controller is this? Sony introduced a big innovation for the PS5 in 2022: an official Pro Controller. Up until this point, players had always had to resort to third-party providers, who in many cases only converted official controllers.

The DualSense Edge is like an official PS5 controller, only comes with additional features:

  • Two back paddles can be attached to the back.
  • The thumbsticks can be replaced with stick modules. To do this, the front panel must then be removed.
  • The stick caps can also be replaced.
  • You can also configure and set up all the buttons yourself using official, integrated software. You can switch between them at any time using 2 FN buttons.
  • But these additional features come with a catch and that is the price: after all, the Edge costs three to four times as much as a normal DualSense controller. But is the controller worth it if it costs less than 200 euros?

Great pro controller with (far) too short battery life

How does the DualSense Edge perform in the test? MeinMMO was able to test the DualSense Edge in detail. In everyday life, the controller is particularly impressive with its intuitive and easy setup. It is also practical that you can exchange and even replace many parts. The very good integration into the PS5 software is also very successful.

What was less convincing was the battery life, which feels even shorter than the normal DualSense. After 3 to 4 hours, gaming is over.

From a long-term perspective, the DualSense Edge has been doing its job on the PS5 for over a year and a half and so far it has worked flawlessly and without any problems.

Who is the controller recommended for? The DualSense Edge has one big advantage and that is its accessibility. The software is already integrated on the PS5 and is very easy to use. Replacing the sticks and paddles is also very easy. If you’re just looking for a well-made, high-quality controller that you can adjust freely, then you can’t go wrong with the DualSense.

Yes, you can definitely get better thumpsticks from other manufacturers and possibly more options for colors and other personal items. But if you “just” want a simple controller for your own settings, then the controller is really good. The controller is particularly recommended for those under 200 euros.

Competitive Pro controllers don’t cost much less than the DualSense Edge

What about the competition? If you compare the prices in the immediate vicinity of the DualSense Edge, you will find that alternative Pro controllers cost hardly less and sometimes even significantly more:

  • For the SCUF Reflex Pro PS5 you pay 249.99, depending on the features even up to 300 euros.
  • You also pay around 250 euros for the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro.
  • You can also get the PDP Victrix Pro BFG controller for around 200 euros.
  • The Wolverine V2 Pro for the PS5 also costs 199.99 euros.
  • Depending on the equipment, feature set or special requests, the prices can increase significantly.

In principle, you can always spend a little more. Ex-colleague Maik Schneider paid 280 euros for a controller for the PS5. And he says: He would do that again in a heartbeat. You can read more about this on MeinMMO: I paid 280 euros for a PS5 controller and damn, I would do it again
