Promoting the environment is a constant issue that is often up for debate. For years, the European Commission has worked to introduce a new regulation that will re-direct the packaging sector towards climate neutrality by 2050. In a new bill, the European Commission wants to introduce refillable packaging.
The bill to introduce new packaging may force the Swedish Systembolaget to make drastic changes.
Buy wine from the tap
If the proposal goes through, it means that Systembolaget must introduce refillable packaging. You will therefore be able to go to Systembolaget with your bottle and fill it up at taps.
Through the proposal, they want to re-direct so that at least ten percent of alcohol sales must be refilled in 2030.
– As much as I would like Systembolaget to be modernized and for Sweden to open up farm sales, I find it difficult to see Systembolaget redirecting its operations to an OKQ8 for alcohol, says the Center Party’s EU parliamentarian Emma Wiesner to The Express.
The EU Commission’s proposal, however, should not include champagne and sparkling wine.
And before any decision is made, the EU Parliament must first negotiate its line and then the Commission, the Parliament and a Council must negotiate a solution that is voted on.
Whether we will be able to buy wine on refill in the future remains to be seen.
