The numbers that prove Daniel Ståhl’s crazy success – now reveal the secret: “I enjoy it”

Last year’s season was tough for Daniel Ståhl.
But now the form could hardly be better.
He won the Karlstad GP with another monster throw – and now the numbers show how dominant he actually is.
– I feel really on track, he says.

It was a season to forget last year for discus star Daniel Ståhl. After several seasons where he was the world’s best discus thrower, he suddenly had to see himself passed by several strong throwers, and he looked like he had a long way to go.

Incredible numbers

Since then, he has also had time to break with his long-time coach – but now he seems to have found his form, to say the least. In the Karlstad GP on Wednesday, he struck with another great throw, and he won the competition without much trouble. And there are also strong numbers that back up the feeling around him.

Daniel Ståhl has thrown over 70 meters 15 times in his career. As he reached 70.25 in Wednesday’s competition, a full four(!) of the 70-meter throws have come this season alone.

It’s something I’m proud of. It’s working well right now and I feel really on track, he says in SVT.

Revealing the secret

Daniel Ståhl believes that the secret behind success lies in simply relaxing and looking at the sport in a slightly different way.

– I have more fun. No demands. I enjoy being Olympic and world champion and can enter the ring with a twinkle in my eye, says Ståhl to TT.

Later in the year, the WC awaits in Budapest, which is the big goal for Ståhl. But it is clear that the collaboration with new coach Staffan Jönsson has been off to a successful start.

– There are hardly any changes at all, but it works, what Staffan and I are doing. I’m having fun, says Ståhl.
