The corona situation has worsened significantly during this summer in many European countries.

The number of cases may already be much higher than the numbers show because most countries have reduced testing significantly.

The comparison of this story includes Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Greece.

As late as the beginning of June, the number of infections found in each country hovered around three hundred daily at the most. On June 1, Spain, Germany and Greece had the most newly confirmed corona infections among the comparison countries. Finland was fifth with less than three hundred daily new infections.

Our World in Data figures are per million people. According to THL, there have been 1,500–2,000 confirmed infections per day in the entire population of Finland.

The most recent statistics for all other countries except Estonia are from July 14.

At that time, Italy had the highest number of new daily corona infections, a total of just over 1,700 per million inhabitants. France was second with just over 1,400 new corona cases. In France, the number of new corona infections more than quintupled compared to the beginning of June.

The third highest number of infections was in Germany, with a good 1,100. Greece is fourth with less than 700 cases and has rapidly decreased in the number of cases.

Finland was eighth with more than 300 daily new infections per million people. Compared to the beginning of June, not much had changed.

The most corona deaths in Finland at the beginning of June

When comparing daily corona deaths per million people, Finland was at the top of the statistics on June 1. At that time, there were 2.99 deaths per million inhabitants in Finland.

The second highest number was in Spain and the third highest in Greece.

The most recent statistics for all countries are from July 13. At that time, Norway had the most corona deaths, 2.35 per million people. The second most corona deaths were in Spain and the third most in Italy. Finland was fifth.

Most French in hospital care

Information about those hospitalized due to corona cannot be found in all countries during the monitoring period of this story.

Figures for June 1 are available for six countries. At that time, France had the most people in the hospital due to the corona virus, a total of 220 per million people, rounded to an even number.

The second highest number of people hospitalized was in Spain and the third highest in Italy. Finland was fourth in the statistics per million people.

On July 13, data was visible from four countries.
