The NPCs in WoW have been ripping you off for weeks

NPCs in MMORPGs are actually helpful. But not so in World of Warcraft, where they tried to coldly dismiss hard-working craftsmen.

It is now known that some see World of Warcraft more as an economic simulation. Sometimes it can also help to rip off your fellow players and hope that they make a few mistakes in the trades. But even NPCs were so bold and regularly overwhelmed the craftsmen with orders that almost bordered on fraud. But that’s over now.

What about the craftsman NPCs? In The War Within there was an innovation for the mechanics of crafting orders. Instead of just relying on orders from real players, there are also crafting orders from NPCs every few days. They want to have produced something and then give a small reward for it – sometimes a few points of professional knowledge, sometimes a small amount of gold.

However, you cannot simply click through these orders one after the other because many of the necessary materials are often missing. As a craftsman, you have to provide these materials in order to complete the job. With players you would usually simply refuse the order – but with NPCs you turn a blind eye. After all, there are important skill points.

However, the NPCs have been particularly bold in recent weeks. Not only were threads or ores missing, but sometimes also materials that could cost tens of thousands of gold. Depending on the profession, you could easily pay 100,000 gold in out-of-pocket costs for a single point of professional knowledge.

Outright rip-off, the likes of which are otherwise only seen from nasty players.

What has changed now? With a hotfix, Blizzard has now adjusted the NPCs’ crafting orders. The changes can be summarized as follows:

  • All NPC crafting jobs now have a higher chance of providing base materials.
  • NPC crafting orders now mostly require a lower quality than before.
  • Many abnormally expensive items, such as alchemy cauldrons or engineering toys, are no longer requested.
  • Please note, however, that these changes only apply to new crafting orders that you will now receive from NPCs. If you still have old ones in your list that last a few days, they have not been changed.
Be careful not to let the auction house trick you.
