This is the sensitive subject of the last few hours: did Bethesda Softworks block the Redfall test embargo on the day of its release to avoid an industrial disaster? This is obviously the question that arises, especially when we take a look at the scores obtained by the latest game from Arkane studios. As of this writing, Redfall posts a very low 64% on Metacritic, average achieved on 27 reviews listed worldwide. Obviously, the note is set to evolve, but overall, everyone agrees that the FPS from Bethesda Softworks is unfortunately not up to scratch. Technically to begin with, the game is a disappointment, but it is above all in its gameplay that Redfall did not convince. Solo, it turns out that the game is totally boring, with the added bonus of a tiny open world, completely empty, not to mention the hunt for vampires which is hardly exciting. It’s quite unfortunate for the studio, but it is true that the timid marketing campaign foreshadowed a fairly average game, not to mention that the hype around it was close to disinterest.

We Got This Covered: 9/10

With rich and beautiful open worlds, a multitude of weapons and a wide variety of enemies to face, Redfall amazes. Players won’t regret claiming Arkane’s latest masterpiece.

XboxEra: 8.5/10
Redfall is fantastic in so many ways. A few baffling design decisions regarding its cooperative implementation and some frustrating technical issues are holding it back. It’s fun as hell in single player, and ridiculously in co-op. With a little post-launch support, this is going to be something special. It might end up being Arkane’s worst-rated title, but it will be their biggest hit. Alone or with friends, Redfall is a game that every fan of the genre should play.

Somos Xbox: 8.3/10
Redfall is that kind of game that puts you in the action with your friends. It’s super fun, especially when you join a team of four and are tasked with battling hordes of vampires to save survivors and complete shelter objectives. But that’s not all, what really takes this game to another level is the character enhancement mechanics and dynamic movement agility.

IGN Spain:
Redfall becomes Arkane’s most fun game: no moral dilemmas, no existential doubts and totally enjoyable both with friends and alone.

Hobby Consoles: 7.8/10
Redfall will be a good game by the time all the technical issues it had at launch are resolved. Arkane’s good hand in tuning and gameplay takes a back seat due to constant bugs and glitches and still, this exclusive is hugely fun.

Stevivor: 7.5/10
Redfall is a truly thrilling experience. It’s great solo, it has the potential to be great with friends – especially if someone has a backup so I can access the last 17 Gamerscore I need, thanks. It will be perfect for anyone who has enjoyed an Arkane game – sci-fi, fantasy or otherwise – in the past.

Areajugones: 7.4/10
Redfall is an open world game that retains some of Arkane’s greatest game design virtues, but at the same time it also feels held back by its own genre. It will probably become something much bigger in the future, but I felt conflicted from the first moment I finished it. At the moment, I think despite its good points, the best thing about Redfall is what it could become…and I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

ZTGD: 7/10

It just doesn’t make sense that Microsoft promotes this game as this great co-op experience, but then puts in place every system known to man to hinder this process or make it more difficult than necessary; no quick match in a multiplayer game in 2023 is ridiculous. Unfortunately, Redfall is a prime example of what current Xbox has become, the potential for greatness is there, but they can’t go out of their way to achieve it.

Attack of the Fanboy: 7/10
Redfall is by no means groundbreaking – but sometimes all a game should be is fun to play, and Arkane has crafted an experience that’s one hell of a good time.

Player2: 6.7/10
The crime of mediocrity is often more disappointing than the crime of simply being terrible and that seems especially true here.

Press Start Australia: 6.5/10
Redfall is a rare lack of gold dust for what has been a very consistent purveyor of quality video games. If you’re able to look past the game’s many questionable design choices, Redfall can serve up just a small bite of insane fun in the island’s black hole sun.

GamersRD: 6.5/10
Redfall is all about Arkane Studios and many fans will really love it. This is an FPS with a rich story, action, various characters and lots of loot. However, it looks simplified in some mechanics and very generic. The strength of the game lies in the multiplayer mode where each character complements each other and becomes more fun. When it comes to graphics and performance, it’s clear that rushing the game’s development was part of its own failure.

Xbox Achievement: 6/10
Redfall is perhaps one of the most ordinary titles from Bethesda and Arkane Austin. A perfectly competent first-person shooter that doesn’t do much to stand out from the competition. The perfect Game Pass game that’s not worth the money, but worth a weekend of casual gaming.

Metro Game Central: 6/10
Immersive simulation meets four-player co-op in this vampire-themed first-person shooter that features competent gunplay but lacks ingenuity in its challenges.

IGN France: 5/10
Redfall tries to be many things but succeeds in only a few areas. Coop is fun enough to overlook its many flaws and odd design decision, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

GamingBolt: 5/10
Redfall is Arkane’s most disappointing game to date. A compelling setting and a few remnants of the developer’s beloved game formula aren’t enough to overcome the game’s many issues, from stiff controls and disappointing design choices to lackluster storytelling and technical shortcomings.

Well Played: 4.5/10
A disappointing take on open-world first-person shooters, Redfall has none of the flavor or mechanical finesse we’ve come to expect from Arkane Studios.

Noisy Pixel: 4/10
Redfall is an anomaly because a match with such a team behind it can’t be that bad, and yet it is. There are these drops of looter shooter, RPG, and multiplayer elements sprinkled throughout, but none of them work together, making for a messy and almost incomprehensible experience. Yet the shooter and exploration still remains fun, thanks to the satisfaction of eliminating enemies and level design. That being said, the single-player campaign is boring, but the multiplayer campaign could provide some fun times of laughing at weird AI behavior or the fact that no one can find the keys to a door.

GameSpot: 4/10
In the end, Redfall is a game that shouldn’t have been released yet. Its litany of bugs hamper the gameplay loop of exploring its world with friends, and that loop itself feels compromised by elements that are poorly executed and ill-suited to the team implementing them. I can’t claim to know if Arkane chose to make a loot shooter or if it was tasked to make a loot shooter, but I can tell you what it does: one of the best game studios in the world suddenly became toothless.

Hey Poor Player: 4/10
Between half-baked gameplay loops, busy repetitive open-world work, and shocking optimization, Redfall looks like a title that’s still in alpha, not to mention a product meant to represent a flagship release of the premium subscription service. from Microsoft.
