The Norwegian star’s performance – after Frida Karlsson and Jonna Sundling’s miss in the Tour de Ski: “Surprising”

Frida Karlsson and Jonna Sundling had a chance at the podium in the Tour de Ski.
But a tough final stage put an end to it.
It surprises Norwegian Heidi Weng, who finished second overall.

Jessie Diggins performed at the top during the start of the World Cup. The American was therefore the favorite to emerge victorious from the Tour de Ski – and so it was. Diggins won the overall by over 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Weng & Niskanen

It was Norwegian Heidi Weng who finished second overall – despite not being in the top five heading into the final stage. But the 32-year-old completed a stunning climb on Alpe Cermis, where she finished second behind invincible Sophia Laukli. With that, she also secured second place in the entire tour.

Kerttu Niskanen finished third in the Tour de Ski. Nor was she at the top at the start of the day. However, the Finn had a better starting position than Heidi Weng, as she was in fourth place and thus “only” improved her final position by one position.

The Norwegian’s surprise

There was thus no podium place for Sweden, even though Ebba Andersson (who dropped out of the tour after three stages) and the reigning champion Frida Karlsson were two of the favorites before the Tour de Ski. But they have both had corona during the season and their form has been affected by it.
– We will get revenge next year. I’m not in top shape, but there are still some glimmers of light, says Frida Karlsson to VG after the end of the tour.

Before the final climb was Jonna Sundling in second place and Frida Karlsson in third place overall. But they ended up in fifteenth and tenth place respectively in the final stage after weaker efforts, and thus lost the podium places. Karlsson finished fourth and Sundling fifth overall.
– It is a bit surprising, I must say, Heidi Weng told VG about the fact that there were no Swedish women on the podium.

Also Lynn Svahn could have reached the podium with a super effort, but she finished 16th in the climb, and sixth overall.
