Tiril Udnes Weng will not be able to participate in the World Championships in Trondheim, says the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK.
Norwegian skier Tiril Udnes Wengin dreams of competing in Trondheim’s home World Championships have come to naught. Udnes Weng, who is suffering from mononucleosis, has been out of the race tracks for a month now, and will not rehabilitate in time for the race team.
– I can’t even think about it. It’s a shame to be left out of the folk festival. I would like to be there to cheer on my teammates, but I don’t know, Weng said for NRK.
Already on Sunday, national team coach Sjur Ole Svarstad hinted to NRK that Weng’s situation looks difficult. Weng said on Monday that he is still ill and will therefore not be able to participate in the Norwegian championships next week,
– I wouldn’t have had a chance to get in shape for the World Championships. It’s boring that I can’t even compete for a place in the Games.
Weng is a two-time relay world champion and won the overall World Cup in the 2022–23 season. After the previous World Championships held in Planica, Slovenia, Weng bought an apartment in Trondheim in order to prepare for the Games in the best possible way.
– We have to try to look ahead and aim for the Olympics, Weng said.
