At the Norwegian championships in Beitostölen, there were some really special moments when the results of the combination competition had to be measured.
After changing skis, half of the skiers went in the wrong direction. The reason for the chaos was that the track markers were where the skiers should actually go. Normally, passing track markers would mean abandonment.
Voiton took the right route to go skiing Heidi Wengbut after the competition the jury decided to measure the results.
– Someone didn’t remove the marks fast enough. We have made mistakes. Weng and the others went straight when many went 200–300 meters too far at the start of the freestyle section, race director Torbjörn Broks Pettersen described to NRK.
The competition boss was in tears after the decision.
– The jury decided that the competition should be cancelled. As an organizer, I made a mistake by sending the skiers in the wrong direction. We can’t call this the Norwegian championship. This is not worth it, Björks Pettersen said.
At first it appeared that Weng had gone in the wrong direction in the race. However, he was the athlete who had skied the right route.
– This is a complete fiasco, NRK expert Jan Post described.
Also other NRK expertst Anders Aukland and Therese Johaug were amazed.
– I have never seen such a fatal error, Aukland said.
– This is just sad. This is sad for the athletes, the organizers and everyone here. This should not happen, Johaug said.
Before the stir, the competition was leading Astrid Öyre Slind.
– Some have not done their work. It is very boring that the championship race is canceled this fall, said Öyre Slind.
Weng understood how to measure results.
– This was a good exercise for me. When I heard about the cancellation, I thought I was going in the wrong direction, Weng stated.
