The Norwegian setback before the restart: “Nothing more useless than a sick skier”

Neither Anne Kjersti Kalvå nor Astrid Öyre Slind have been able to train since they broke the Tour de Ski. Lotta Udnes Weng is back in training but will not start in Oberhof, Germany.

– Lotta Udnes Weng got covid, but is the one who has come the farthest. She has been training for three, four days now. Anne Kjersti Kalvå caught a severe cold and has not trained for ten days. She has hardly been out to get some air, says national team coach Stig Rune Kveen to NRK.

Öyre Slind is a little discouraged.

– Nothing is more useless than a sick skier, she says.

“Hope to avoid illness next winter”

On the plus side is that Tiril Udnes Weng can make his debut in the World Cup after his prolonged covid. She made a comeback last weekend in the Scandinavian Cup in Otepää, Estonia. Although the hope of defending the World Cup title is long gone.

– I hope that we get rid of the diseases this season and that we avoid them next winter when it is the World Cup in Trondheim, says Kveen and hopes that the diseases have disappeared and that the rest of the season will be a more pleasant experience.
