In an interview with NRK, the crown prince couple, who have previously been tight-lipped, open up about the situation surrounding Maurius Borg Høiby and describe the pressure the family experienced.
– It has been tough, and there is nothing else to say about it. It has been very tough for all of us, says Mette-Marit.
In the interview, Mette Marit also criticizes the media pressure she says the family experienced.
– There is a responsibility on the part of the press and the media themselves must take responsibility for the pressure that has been there, says Mette-Marit.
The Crown Prince: It’s Marius’ story
The storm around Høiby started in August when he was arrested on suspicion of having abused a woman he had a relationship with. In November, he was further arrested again as he is suspected of rape.
He is currently suspected of crimes against six plaintiffs, at least three of whom have been in a relationship with him.
Crown Prince Haakon states that he does not believe it has been possible and right to be as open about the suspicions as voices have demanded of the royal family.
– We have to take into account all parties in this where some have been clear that they do not want so much attention and it has been important for us to respect. As for Marius, this is his story. We must also have respect for that, says the crown prince.
