Yesterday, Ebba Busch (KD) criticized Norway’s desire to scrap electricity cables to Denmark when the agreement expires.
The minister said that it will be a “complete disaster”, but now receives a counterstab from Norway.
– This comes from the highest place in Sweden, ignorant reprimands and pointing fingers about how we should manage our energy policy, I do not accept that, says Sofie Marhaug, Member of Parliament for the party Red.
Yesterday, Energy and Industry Minister Ebba Busch took a hard line against Norway considering scrapping two electricity cables to Denmark when the agreement expires in 2026.
– It will be a complete disaster. It will affect both Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Poland and have ripple effects across the entire energy system in Europe, Busch told the Norwegian News Agency NTB.
Norwegian member fights back: Double standards
Now the Norwegian member of the Storting, Sofie Marhaug, is fighting back in an interview with Dagbladet. She believes that Busch’s statement is “impudent” and testifies to a double standard. She believes that it is disadvantageous for Norway with European electricity prices.
– Then it is unreasonable for Norway to link itself even closer to a European system via Denmark, says Sofie Marhaug, who represents the left-wing party Rødt in the Storting.
Marhaug also mentions an incident from last summer, when Sweden turned down a new electricity cable from Skåne to Germany. In a press release said Busch that there could be a risk of higher prices and a more unstable electricity market in Sweden if the cable was accepted.
– It is for exactly the same reasons that Rødt and several others say no to more Danish cables. That Ebba Busch doesn’t understand it testifies to a lack of knowledge and a lack of self-awareness, says Marhaug.
Busch: “Insane about the Germans”
Last week, Busch also criticized Germany after the high electricity prices in Sweden.
– I’m crazy about the Germans. You have made a decision for your own area, which you have the right to make. But it has had very big consequences, Busch said, adding:
– It is also the case that they ignore the introduction of electricity price ranges in Germany and this means that we are affected much more by the irresponsible electricity policy in Germany.
