On Monday, the southern Fosen group agreed with the government on an agreement which, among other things, means that reindeer owners will receive compensation and a compensation area for grazing.
But the reindeer herders in Nordfossen are far from reaching an agreement and are still negotiating with the state. There they stand by their demands, including that the wind turbines in Roan must be demolished.
– We have put forward a proposal and have not received a real answer to it. But we want to demolish parts of the Roan wind farm, about 40 in total, says Terje Haugen, leader of the Nordfosen reindeer herding district to NRK Sápmi.
“Can’t say anything more”
At the end of November, they last had a mediation meeting with the government, but not much else has happened since then.
– It’s okay to hope for surprises, says Haugen, who is unsure when they can come to an agreement.
Stig Tore Laugen, communications director at Aneo, which is the operator and owner of Roan Vind:
– The ongoing mediation is confidential and we cannot say anything more about its content. We hope that an amicable settlement can also be reached in the northern group, he says.
The reindeer herders in Nordfossen chose last week to send a letter to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre demanding a quick solution.
The Prime Minister: “Important lesson learned”
He says in a comment to NRK Sápmi that he is satisfied that the conflict with the southern group is now resolved and that they hope to reach the same result with the northern group soon.
– We want to find amicable solutions to this.
He also believes that an important lesson is that the work with the wind turbines in Fosen should have been more thorough when the license was originally granted.
– It violated international obligations and it should not have happened, so that work should have been more thorough. It’s been a bumpy road to figure out how to fix it.
