Tanks from Sweden are already saving lives in Ukraine. That’s what Volodymyr Zelenskyy says during a press meeting together with the Nordic leaders.
– This year will be decisive for us, for Europe, for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president began his speech by thanking the Nordic countries for all their support.
– I thank Sweden and the strong support through the EU presidency.
Hope Sweden becomes a NATO member
Zelenskyj also congratulated Finland on its accession to NATO.
– And I hope Sweden becomes a member as soon as possible, he says and expresses a wish that Ukraine can join NATO in the future.
Ulf Kristersson (M) emphasizes that Sweden will continue to send military and political support to Ukraine as long as it is needed.
– Ukraine is not only fighting for its future, but also for our future, says Ulf Kristersson.
Will organize a summit
The Swedish Prime Minister also explains that Russia must be held responsible for the deportation of Ukrainian children. Kristersson says that Sweden will organize a summit where the focus will be on how Ukrainian children should be protected.
– In Russia’s uncivilized war, protecting children is the most civilized thing to do.
Zelensky’s unexpected visit to Helsinki is surrounded by a huge security effort and meetings with the Nordic leaders are on the agenda. One reason for the visit is said to be to secure and speed up new weapon deliveries. Earlier in the day, Zelenskyj met Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and expressed gratitude for all the support.
