The nomadic art institution Verdde, which is currently run as a project, was inaugurated through their first collaboration in Luleå.
During the spring, together with the Luleå Biennale, they worked to make Luleå visible as a Sami area. The result was craftsman Tilde-Risten Kuoljok’s artwork “hálijdibme badjelándas”.
More knowledge about the Sami
– This work of art will be shown during each Luleå Biennale, to remind that the place where the Biennale is organized is also a Sami place, says Ellen Berit Dalbakk, guide and curator at Verdde.
The purpose of Verdde is, among other things, to make visible and increase knowledge about the Sami presence in Norrbotten.
Luleå’s first cooperation partner
Therefore, the art institution is now looking for collaboration partners who previously do not have much knowledge of the Sami. Luleå will be their first collaboration partner.
– Although it is a Sami area, there is still a lot of ignorance about the Sami here, and many Sami experience racism, says Dalbakk.
