A heavy rainstorm moved in over the country during the night.
Alarms are now coming from several quarters about flooded roads and basements.
– During the day it will move north. At midnight I expect only northern Norrland to be affected, says meteorologist Erik Höjgård-Olsen.
Örebro, Skaraborg and Östergötland, the rainy weather that hit during the night has caused problems in several places.
– There have been heavy showers over northern Götaland and central parts of Svealand during the night, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meteorologist at SMHI.
According to SMHI, there has been somewhere between 30-50 millimeters of rain.
– But it obviously varies in some places, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.
Moving north
The rainy weather moved in over the west coast during yesterday and is now moving north during the day. During the morning it is just north of Gävle and along the coast, but also a bit inland.
– It will move north during the day and at midnight I expect only northern Norrland to be affected. Gradually, the intensity of precipitation will also decrease.
Most likely, Norrland will not be affected by the same amount of precipitation as the southern parts of the country. According to SMHI, it can reach up to 10 millimeters in six hours.
“Normal summer shower”
Despite the many problems and floods caused by the rain, Erik Höjgård-Olsen believes that it is just an ordinary summer shower that hit the country.
– There are certainly large amounts, but it is nothing unusual for summer showers. What has been unusual is that it has been a rainy summer, and we have high flows that have saturated the ground.
He believes that the night’s rain would only have been “described as showers” if it weren’t for the fact that the ground is saturated, which he believed to be the cause of the night’s flooding.
Monday – a day for recovery
During tomorrow, there may be a little more rain, but according to SMHI, it may be a slightly calmer day.
– Right now it feels like Monday could be a bit of a break where we can recover a bit. There may be some mist and fog.
In the landscapes around the Baltic Sea and along the Norrland coast, however, there may be some sun.
– There may generally be some sunny moments, although there may be some local and light showers passing through. It will be a day for a little recovery, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.
