Khaddi Sagnia chooses not to go to the EC in Rome.
“I don’t want to come to the championship and not be able to do myself justice,” says the cross-country star.
Khaddi Sagna was dogged by injuries last year but still chose to compete at the WC in Budapest. When she missed the final, she ended the season.
The break was long. Aiming to recover, Sagnia sat out the indoor season – including the Indoor WC in Glasgow in March – and at the Diamond League competition in Suzhou at the end of April, she competed in her first competition since last summer.
Sagnia misses the EC
After the premiere, the 30-year-old has competed in Dubai, Kalamata and Budapest – but there will be no participation in the EC in Rome.
“I’m not in as good shape as I would like,” she says to the Swedish Athletics Federation’s website.
“I would only disappoint myself if I can’t live up to my expectations.”

Instead of the championship in Italy, Sagnia chooses to focus on training and the SM at the end of June.
“I have learned over the years to listen to my body and feel how it feels. Now we came to the conclusion that it is better to stay at home, train and try to do as well as possible at the SM instead,” she says.
Union captain Kajsa Bergqvist:
“Khaddi has had a promising start to the season after a longer break from competition, so this came as a surprise to me. She sounded positive when she agreed last week,” she says.
“I hope she is back in good shape again soon.”
