It was as feared. The knee injury that Sävehof’s national team player Olivia Mellegård received in the match against Skuru turned out to be a torn cruciate ligament.
“We suffer and cry with Olivia,” says sports director Jonathan Stenbäcken.
It is the third time in his handball career that Olivia Mellegård suffering from a cruciate ligament injury. The first for the 27-year-old left-back came in August 2020 and the second in March 2022.

The third came last week in the series finale against Skuru when Mellegård landed wrongly after a finish and screamed out her pain before being led off the field.
“We suffer and cry with Olivia. After previously coming back from tough injuries, she has regained her national team place and last played at the WC in Sweden in December,” says Sävehof’s sports director Jonathan Stenbäcken to the club website.
For Sävehof, who currently leads the handball league on the same points as Skuru, it will be a big break.
“Olivia has been a contributing factor to us leading the series. Now we are crossing our fingers that we will soon see her on the handball court again”.

It remains to be seen whether Mellegård can return to national team form before the EC in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland, which starts at the end of November.
