She is a single mother to eight-month-old Nemi. In August, Nemi was to start at Night Violet.
– I may have to resign. As a dog handler and police officer in external service, you work three shifts, meaning morning, evening and night as well as weekends and public holidays, says Alessandra Militello.
Camilla Graf and her partner are parents to soon-to-be 4-year-old Ben, also shift-working police officers. Her partner has now managed to switch jobs to daytime.
– We will have less time together as a family, she says.
The night violet moved to Rydsgård
The decision to close the preschool was made by a school and education board that disagreed, which Ystad’s Allehanda was the first to report.
According to the municipality’s website, increasing costs and fewer enrolled children are behind the decision. Ann-Marie Sjöberg (SD), chairman of the school and education board, says Ystad’s Allehanda that there will only be three children enrolled for the summer.
In 2016, the business moved from central Skurup to Rydsgård. The idea was that it would be temporary, but nothing has happened since then.
“Suddenly out of nowhere we instead get the message that it will close,” says Camilla Graf.
Appealed the decision
If there are only three children enrolled – is it justifiable to keep the business open?
– I understand that there are few children, but if the preschool had been moved back to Skurup as was intended, the demand would have been much greater. We know that at least 12 children would need obstetric care inside Skurup, says Alessandra Militello.
The parents have now appealed the decision to the administrative court and collected 300 names in protest against the closure.
SVT Nyheter Skåne has not been able to reach responsible politician Ann-Marie Sjöberg (SD) for a comment.
