Niger’s military junta, which seized power in a July 26 coup, wants to prosecute ousted president Mohamed Bazoum for high treason.
In a statement that was read out on television on Sunday, it is said that Bazoum undermined the country’s security.
The EU and the African Union have expressed concern over the condition of 63-year-old Bazoum and the circumstances of his post-coup captivity. The organization Human Rights Watch has described his situation as “inhuman and cruel”.
