These changes, upwards and downwards, will be the result of the annual adjustments made by the Family Allowance Fund. Every year, in January, the organization recalculates the amount of the services to which the beneficiaries are entitled. And this, thanks to the last tax return.
The 2023 income, declared in the spring of 2024, were sent to CAF, between August and October. This information allowed him to adjust the amount of social benefits for the coming year, taking into account the exact resources of each household. The objective is twofold: prevent fraud and avoid industrial payments.
The new amount is paid for January services, paid on February 5. Family allowances, housing aid (APL), child care aid or even adult services with disabilities are particularly concerned.
To fully understand: families whose income received between 2022 and 2023 increased by more than 4.8% will see their social benefits decrease. As for those whose income has not moved, decreased or increased by less than 4.8%, aid paid by CAF should increase.
If your income has varied, especially downwards, the transmission of information by the tax authorities to the CAF does not automatically grant new assistance to the beneficiaries. It is necessary to make the request. CAF therefore suggests, once the new resources have been taken into account, to carry out a new complete simulation on its site to find out if new rights have opened. Only 30% of French people know precisely at least four allowances, according to a survey carried out by the DREES.
