It’s been less than a year since West Side Story opened in cinemas. With the remake of the musical classic of the same name, Steven Spielberg fulfilled a personal dream. One came out captivating masterpiecewhich is the expression of pure cinema in all its furious and elegant movements.

Spielberg’s next film will be even more personal: The Fabelmans is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story set in America 1950s kidnapped. Here the young Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) grows up between family conflicts and the magic of the moving image.

The Fabelmans celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival at the weekend and received very positive reviews from the critics – so positively that the film is given great chances at the next Oscars. The trailer shows why: Spielberg has one Declaration of love to the cinema turned.

He’s not alone in that. In the award season, Spielberg is likely to face competition from two films in this field, because Sam Mendes and Damien Chazelle have also made declarations of love for the cinema.
