Warner Bros. takes Multiversus off the net: one of many service games that have been discontinued in the past few weeks.
What kind of game is that? Multiversus is a free fight game inspired by Smash Bros. This offers well-known characters from Warner Bros’ media multiple. Here Batman and Bugs Bunny knock off, while Samurai Jack and Jason compete against machete in the fight.
You can see a gameplay trailer for the game here:
When did the game appear? Multiversus originally started in July 2022 as an open beta. Around a year later, the game was taken away from the net: the reason was that developer Player First Games wanted to revise aspects such as the netcode, matchmaking and progression, and developing new characters, maps and game modes.
The relaunch followed in May 2024, but the game could not keep its players permanently. While over 150,000 players were on Steam for the release, there were recently only 720 players (via Steamdb.info)
Warner pulls the connector after Season 5
When will the game be taken from the network? Multiversus will be discontinued on May 30, 2025, as the developers announce in a statement on Multiversum.com. So after five seasons is over. The last season brings two new characters with DC’s Aquaman and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes, which you can freeze in the Battle Pass.
If you want to play multiversus in the future, you have to download the game by May 30, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. CET. Online features are then logically not supported, but you will still be able to fight locally against friends or against the AI.
All of the microtransactions made will remain. Since January 31, the premium currency Gleamium has not been able to buy real money, but you can still use it for purchases in the game. The same applies to character tokens that you have not yet used.
New service games didn’t have it easy last year. After the flop of costly productions such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Concord and other games, publishers and developers row back a few weeks ago-we got the message that Sony brings the development of 2 large service titles for the PS5, even though one even one had a really strong brand.
