It seems that the Modern Day story of the Assassin’s Creed series will take a sharp turn going forward.
Two weeks ago, the first information about possible changes to the game’s Modern Day story was leaked when YouTuber Sliderv2 released unused audio recordings of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Assuming that this video is real, it indicates that the Modern Day story may take place in the future.
New Assassin’s Creed Game May Be Set in the Future
In the video, two unidentified Animus Operators use the term “old history” for the 21st century, giving the impression that the dialogue takes place in a future time period. There is also talk of the “Great Change” expected to occur in the 21st century. Although Ubisoft has not yet commented on this leak, the fact that the leaked voice recording belongs to a project codenamed “Neo” and known as Assassin’s Creed Hexe, not confused with Assassin’s Creed Red, strengthens the claims.
According to Insider Gaming, interviews with anonymous sources in the audio indicate that the “Modern Day” storyline will likely take place in the future. Previous Assassin’s Creed games were about modern times when they were released. For example, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Modern Day story was set in 2020.
Although we cannot definitively confirm the accuracy of the leaked voice recording for Hexe, it appears that a significant part of the Modern Day story in Assassin’s Creed Red will take place in the last decade of the 21st century, that is, between 2090-2099. This will allow players to discover an entirely new cast of characters in Abstergo Industries.
Marc-Alexis Côté, Vice President and Executive Producer of the Assassin’s Creed series, announced that the story will now be told through a new platform called Infinity. In this way, players will be able to experience the Modern Day story through the Infinity platform and access new games such as Codename Red and Codename Hexe.
There are many questions that need to be answered for now. Considering that the Modern Day story has received criticism for its complex historical background, moving the story into the future seems like it could give the narrative a new direction and add flexibility.
Perhaps the “Big Change” carries clues about Assassin’s Creed Red and the Modern Day story that will take place between 2090 and 2099, and may be laying the groundwork for Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
