Many have been waiting for the TV series about Börje Salming.
Now the very first trailer has been released – and it’s pure goosebumps.
– Finally time to show what we have fought and worked with for such a long time, says Valter Skarsgård, who plays Börje, in a press release.
It has almost been a year since Sweden lost one of its biggest sporting icons. November 24, 2022, the giant fell asleep Börje Salming in after battling several months with the incurable disease ALS.
The TV series “Beginning”
The whole of Sweden was united in grief and scores of tributes and condolences poured in. Before his passing, the TV channel Viaplay announced that they are filming a TV series about Börje Salming’s life and hockey career, and since then many Swedes have been looking forward to seeing it.

Now the very first video for the TV series has been released, watch the trailer below. It is called “Börje – The Journey of a Legend” and premieres on November 19 on Viaplay’s channels.
Tributes Salming
The TV series is divided into six episodes and will be about Salming’s breakthrough in the NHL and the move from Kiruna to Toronto. In a press release, the plot is described as follows: “We follow his journey from a young boy in Kiruna, via his breakthrough in Brynäs to his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is equally a nostalgic and visual portrait of the 1970s in both Sweden and Canada. A time when hockey was really dangerous”.

The main role of a young Börje Salming is played by Walter Skarsgård and he had a lot of contact with the hockey icon before he tragically passed away.
– Throughout the project, it became clear time and time again how much Börje meant to so many people. From the first meeting with Börje to his funeral, I was struck again and again by his magnificence, says the actor in the press release.
– Börje was absolutely incredible and vitally important to me in this project. How he is as a person, tough on the ice and a winner, but at the same time such a kind and humble person. That dynamic. Seeing how he was in private was important to carry with me all the way when I was going to play him. It is also a page that everyone may not have seen before. Now I’m looking forward to the premiere and I hope that the audience will be as fascinated by Börje and his life as I am.

Anticipation is high for the new TV series and after seeing the first trailer, watch the video below, we are really looking forward to November 19 when the first episode is released. Because it’s pure goosebumps to see the beautiful pictures from Sweden in the 70s and a young Börje Salming on the ice in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.
