The latest option added by WhatsApp to its popular messaging service is likely to please many users.
WhatsApp may be one of the most used instant messengers in the world, but that’s not enough for its company, Meta. The firm regularly adds new options, updates, and features to its flagship application. While some updates are sometimes quite minor, users have noticed that the latest addition to the application has radically changed their lives!
Unveiled at the beginning of July 2024, the 2.24.15.5 update for WhatsApp on Android includes a new feature that was, until then, only available on iPhone. The latter had in fact been available on iOS for several months already, but required some additional adjustments to be deployed on Android smartphones.
Among the new features of this update, the feature to remember is called “audio transcription”. As you will have certainly understood, it allows you to transpose the audio messages you receive into text format to read. Very practical when you are in a meeting or when you cannot clearly hear the sound of your phone.
For the moment, the “transcribe audio” feature is only available in a limited number of languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi. The WBetainfo site, which specializes in upcoming WhatsApp features, claims that several other languages are already planned. There is no doubt that the French language should soon appear in our country and arrive at the same time as the feature to transcribe audio! You will potentially have to navigate through the application settings to find this new addition and activate it to take advantage of it.
For the most skeptical, finally know that WhatsApp promises that the transcriptions of audio messages are done only on your device locally and that this feature therefore does not send any data to any remote server. Enough to reassure those who send audios of a private nature.
