A fake Swish app has been used for several payments in Varberg in the past week, reports Hallands Nyheter.

The app looks and works exactly like the original, except that no transactions are actually completed.

Above all, it is restaurants that have been affected. In all cases, the false payments were made by young people, according to the reports.

– It is enough to know that it is a new trend. In these cases, we are talking about thousands of dollars each time. We can assume that more have been cheated of smaller amounts, says municipal police Ghadi Ghazale to the newspaper.

Similar frauds have also been discovered in other places in the country.

– More municipalities are warning about exactly this. There are several different types of paid apps, so I understand that it’s easy to get scammed, says Ghadi Ghazale.

While fake Swish payments themselves are nothing new, they haven’t been as sophisticated as the new app, according to police. In order to protect yourself as an entrepreneur, it is therefore important to check payments made via Swish.
