The Swedish cross-country skiers are already looking forward to the WC in Trondheim next year.
Several of them have recharged in the same way during the summer – by changing residences.
– It has become trendy in the national cross-country team to move, says Ebba Andersson at the pre-season press conference.
The new ski season is fast approaching. The Swedish riders are loading up for the domestic premiere in Bruksvallarna, November 22-24. The weekend after is the World Cup premiere in Finnish Ruka as usual.
Have bought a house
The national team skaters met the assembled press at Svenska Spel’s office in Solna on Monday. Then all the media, including Sportbibeln, got the chance to ask individual questions to the riders, but there was also a joint press conference with everyone.

During the roughly half an hour when the skaters were gathered, the press meeting was led by the former national team star Anders Södergren. After asking a couple of riders questions, he identified a common denominator for many. Several of the Swedish stars have had to change residences as part of this summer’s upload. Some have moved and changed cities, others have become homeowners and learned how to take care of their own property.
– Johan, you have just moved. Not so far, perhaps, he asks Johan Häggström (as bought house on Frösön, Östersund).
– Exactly. I have moved into a house, so there was a lot of stuff to move from the apartment. But it was still fun to get into something a little bigger and get my own lawn, replies the 32-year-old.
– Has the back recovered?, asks Södergren, whereupon Häggström says:
– It was mostly the feet, standing all day. You were never allowed to sit and rest.
Also Maja Dahlqvist30, has moved. She has moved west and exchanged her home town of Falun for the Norwegian WC city of Trondheim.
– I have moved to the WC circuit. It has been good. I feel better and better almost too, so now I have a handle on most things, I think, she says.
– It is teeming with skiers. People roller ski to the right and left, and the motorists are a little more used to it, I think, than in Falun. It has been great and there are so many options for training. The roller skiing course is basically the entire WC course, so there are a lot of treats, she continues.

Could be a recipe for success
Whether it turns out that a home purchase or a move is a recipe for success ahead of the new season remains to be seen. Maybe it gives the national team stars greater self-confidence or some kind of security or calmness in the body?
– You have also moved, it is a standing theme now, Anders Södergren tells Ebba Andersson27, who has bought a house together with her boyfriend Gustaf Berglund in Östersund.
– It has become trendy in the national cross-country team to move, states Ebba, who is also asked if the national team skiers have talked to each other about their various moves.
– We managed to mistime the access a little. We’ve still exchanged a bit, I won’t say experiences because we’re quite green when it comes to having a house, but we’ve bounced back and forth a bit, she replies.
Before the press conference is over, Ebba Andersson admits to Olympic gold medalist Södergren that she hasn’t even bought a lawnmower yet. It is the next step for her and her partner.
Exciting with so many national team skiers who changed residences this summer. Maybe it can help them find new motivation before the WC in Trondheim? We hope so!
