Tesla has a habit of showing off new models that are then heavily delayed, and the brand’s most delayed model is the new Tesla Roadster.
The prototype of the car was shown back in 2017, and after that the start of production has been postponed time and time again. Now, however, the wait should be over according to the company’s CEO Elon Musk.
“Production design is complete and on display by the end of the year, aiming for deliveries next year,” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Whether that schedule will actually be kept is unclear, as Musk has repeatedly promised timelines for multiple products that have proven to be too optimistic by several years.
In an earlier tweet at the same time, Musk revealed that it had just increased the design goals for the car, which seems contradictory if the production design is already complete.
“There will never be another car like this, if you can even call it a car,” Musk continued at X.

Rumors of rocket engine
Perhaps the most startling number related to the Tesla Roadster is the acceleration. 0 to 60 mph, corresponding to 96 km/h, according to what Musk writes on the X, must be completed in less than a second.
This will be made possible by a collaboration between Tesla and Musk’s space company Space X. The rumor says that it will be a special Space X package for the electric car, which includes a rocket engine.
Whether a car with a rocket engine can be registered for street use remains to be seen. Even without a rocket engine, 0 to 100 km/h should be able to be achieved in just 1.9 seconds and have a top speed of over 400 km/h according to previous information.
