The new Superman actor has starred in 2 of Netflix’s biggest disappointments in recent years

The new Superman actor has starred in 2 of Netflixs

One of the biggest casting decisions of recent years was made two weeks ago: David Corenswet plays him new Superman in the upcoming DC reboot. A completely new superhero universe is planned, which is to be built up over ten years and starts in 2025 with Superman: Legacy.

But who is David Corenswet? Although the American actor has been a favorite for the role for months, he’s a fairly unknown story in cinemas. Corenswet is so far above all known for Netflix productions. In addition to the RomCom Look Both Ways, this also includes two bitter series flops.

After two big Netflix flops, David Corenswet takes off as Superman

Prior to his Superman casting, Corenswet appeared in The Politician (2019) and Hollywood (2020). In the dramedy The Politician he plays a high school sweetheart and athlete, in Hollywood he has one of the leading roles as a World War II veteran who wants to break into an actor.

Both series were produced by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, who released 2018 with a Mega Netflix deal caused a stir: the streaming service secured the series mogul for an incredible $300 million.

The expectations were high: Murphy was to create a number of hit series for Netflix in a very short time, having previously delivered several long-running hits to other stations and networks. However, Netflix wasn’t happy at all with The Politican and Hollywood. Both series got bad reviews and flopped.

Although The Politician was even renewed for a second season, it only stayed in the top 10 in the US for six days, according to What’s on Netflix. Hollywood also faded into obscurity, although the series a substantial budget should have – the next costly defeat.

Only with Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer (2022) and The Watcher (2022) could Murphy prove that that it was worth the money, as Variety notes. Nevertheless, the paths between the producer and the streamer are now parting. However, the Netflix flops did not harm Corenswet’s career.

With Superman: Legacy, he’s spearheading his own superhero blockbuster, something The Politican and Hollywood already like Marginal notes in his filmography works. If Corenswet can prove himself in the course of his DC debut, all doors should be open to him in the dream factory.

When is Superman: Legacy in cinemas?

Superman: Legacy launches on July 10, 2025 in German cinemas. Before that, we can look forward to two other DC movies that are part of the old DC Universe, namely Blue Beetle (August 17, 2023) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 21, 2023).
