After his success with Longlegs, Osgood Perkins (son of Psycho actor Anthony Perkins) has brought stars like Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Theo James (Divergent) in front of the camera in his new horror film. If you are under 17, you must bring an adult with you to see an R-rated movie theater in the United States. In addition to numerous swear words, the depictions of violence in the trailer are also responsible for the fact that The Monkey should only be viewed by adults: a “stroller in flames” is accompanied by “severed fingers”, “excessive blood spatters”, several burning heads, entrails and one “Bowling ball crashing into child’s face”.
