He describes a situation where many people today get stuck in “unsafe, tiring and low-paid jobs”, while companies lack personnel for highly productive jobs.
– Therefore, as part of regaining control, we want to shut down the employment agency, redo and do the right thing. This is a politically destroyed authority, says Björn Wiechel to TT.
Adult education is highlighted
Instead, government-directed efforts are proposed to ensure that there are employment agencies locally in the country with a high degree of “regional self-determination”. Adult education must also be an important part of getting people into long-term jobs.
TT: By shutting down the Employment Service, how can one succeed better in directing people from insecure jobs to what you describe as “good” jobs?
– Those who work with mediation must have a much higher degree of freedom to direct efforts, you have to connect education so that people get more efforts that direct towards these jobs. That it will not be these short, temporary cuts that are governing, but the long-term productivity goal, says Björn Wiechel.
Big changes
The employment service has changed in several stages in recent decades, under governments of different colours.
In 2019, a major privatization was carried out under the then S-MP government, as part of the January agreement with the bourgeois support parties C and L.
– It has created a market where you make money from unemployment instead of fighting unemployment, Björn Wiechel to TT.
He does not directly answer the question of whether it was a mistake that the privatization was pushed through under S’s rule.
– We didn’t settle it then, I want to settle it now, he says.
