An election promise from both the Social Democrats and the Left Party in Västra Götaland was cheaper public transport. Just two weeks ago, such a proposal was voted down in the public transport committee. But now the red-greens are going ahead with it in the budget and will push through a reduction from May 2023.
– It is an important signal, we want to develop and regain market shares in public transport, says Helén Eliasson.
Underbalances budget
In order to finance the investments that are now being made, the budget is underbalanced for the next two years, so the region is allowed to go backwards in the budget.
– We have strong economic equity in the region, so we have the opportunity to do it, says Helén Eliasson.
