In May, Furuviksparken starts its concerts for the summer, half a year after the tragic event when four chimpanzees were shot to death. The first band booked is called “Tjuvjakt”. – It’s tone deaf, totally untalented, says PR expert and crisis manager Paul Ronge. On Tuesday, it was announced that Theoz has chosen to cancel its summer gig at the criticized zoo Furuvik east of Gävle. The decision was made after the artist received unpleasant messages and emails. The booking is not the only one that is causing discussion. In social media, attention is also being drawn to the name of the group that will perform at the park’s first concert on May 27, “Tjuvjakt”. “A bit awkward to choose Tjuvjakt as one of the artists of the summer,” writes someone. “Is it a joke?”, writes another. PR expert: Tone-deaf, totally untalented PR expert and media advisor Paul Ronge believes that Furuviksparken should have thought before booking. – They absolutely should not have anything connected to hunting or poaching after the incident in December. It is tone deaf, totally untalented, he says. He believes that there is still nothing the park can do or say to calm the storm of criticism or improve the situation. When someone has messed up or done something that cannot be explained, it is generally better to lie low, he says. – In their case, in terms of PR, there is nothing you can do or say that makes the situation better. What has happened must simply be forgotten. Something like this with the name of this band is opening up old wounds. Furuviksparken: About a good concert program Sandra Wilke, CEO of Furuviksparken, says that there was a discussion before booking the band because of the name. – I can understand that you reflect on the incident in December in connection with this. That event was horrific and that cannot be downplayed, and it is something we will always carry with us. – When we make our concert program, we book good bands that we think can appeal to many of our guests, it should suit different ages and we want different genres. For us, it’s about a good concert program with good artists and not their stage name, she says. She says that the company will now, despite this, have a new discussion about the decision. – When we receive feedback, it is of course important to reflect on it. We haven’t had time yet, neither as to whether we’ve done it right or wrong, but it’s clear that we’re taking the feedback to heart. It was Wednesday, December 14, that five chimpanzees escaped from their enclosure at Furuviksparken. Four chimpanzees were shot dead and one was shot. The decision to shoot the chimpanzees has met with massive criticism, both from experts and the public. In the player above: Watch the interview with Paul Ronge.
