The new MMORPG for EverQuest is supposed to be a kind of modern reboot for Part 1, but one detail makes you skeptical

It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG News in Two Minutes”. We summarize the most important news about the best genre in the world. Expect an update to EverQuest 3, new content for Aion Classic, the launch of Corepunk, and much more.

The highlights of the week:

What else happened? The new MMORPG Corepunk started early access this week. The preliminary conclusion of many fans is positive, as they enjoy the old-school gaming experience. Also cool: As soon as you have reached the current maximum level of 20, you earn some real money for the fair in-game shop instead of leveling up.

The biggest update to date for Aion Classic is live

This happened with the big MMORPGs:

This happened with the small MMORPGs:

  • The German developers at CipSoft continue to clean up their MMORPG Tibia. This time it hit a character who was high up in the world rankings. The developers have now commented on the account penalties and announced subsequent checks of the deletions carried out (via tibia.com).
  • RuneScape, released in January 2001, is one of the largest and most successful MMORPGs in gaming history. The classic “Old School” version has now achieved an impressive record.
  • The developers of Eve Online have presented the new features of the Revenant update on eveonline.com. Tactical mercenary operations await you, and you currently have to defend the Deathless facilities.
  • This week a new event and a fresh raid boss came to Tarisland’s live servers (via tarisglobal.com), and the developers have also published a roadmap for December 2024 (via X).
  • The developers of EverQuest have released a preview of the “The Outer Brood” update (via everquest.com), which is due out next week.
  • As is well known, Embers Adrift is currently Free2Play because the developers have lost an important partner. There was now an update on the official Discord about the planned move to Steam (via mmorpg.com): The new product page should be almost finished and – according to the plan – go live at the weekend.
  • A major update for Lineage 2M will be released on December 1, 2024, which will bring, among other things, a new class (Twin Axes), a fresh dungeon and a pet system (via mmorpg.org.pl).
  • Aion Classic has received its biggest update to date with 3.0. “The Path of the Brawler” increases the maximum level to 60, introduces the pugilist class and has various new challenges on offer (via gameforge.com).
  • The mines of Moria will open on the legendary servers Angmar and Mordor from Lord of the Rings Online on December 4, 2024 (via YouTube).

This is what happened with the MMORPGs in development:

  • The MMORPG Ashes of Creation shows no mercy to cheaters in the alpha and deletes 100 characters.
  • According to a post from the developers, work on the MMORPG Eternal Tombs has progressed well this year. They want to start the next test phases at the end of February or beginning of March 2025 (via eternaltombs.com).
  • EverQuest, announced in September 2023, is apparently not intended to be EverQuest 3, but rather a kind of reboot for the first part (via mmorpg.org.pl), with modern graphics and updated gameplay. In an interview, the developers explain (via YouTube) that EverQuest 2 was a kind of curse for the first part because many players switched to the new MMORPG. We want to prevent that next time. Apparently the project is still in the concept phase 14 months after the announcement (!). There probably isn’t even a prototype.
  • We have summarized for you the most important things that have recently happened in the world of MMORPGs.
