In the first episode of House of the Dragon we had to make do with a Targaryen crest. Some even wondered if the new Game of Thrones series would have to do without any opening credits. Episode 2 of the fantasy series based on George RR Martin now provides the answer. In The Rogue Prince we see the intro of the series for the first time.
Blood rules the new House of the Dragon intro
The first thing you notice: the music. House of the Dragon’s opening credits use the same music as Game of Thrones. Anyone hoping that a new piece by composer Ramin Djawadi will be used looks at the tube or flat screen. Instead, the creators are relying on familiarity with the main theme of the original series.
Visually, the new intro is very different from Game of Thrones. While we’ve seen a map of Westeros and Essos across eight seasons of GOT with locations each relevant to the episode, this time the title sequence features a bloody Targaryen family tree.
Stream House of the Dragon: Every Monday, a new episode is available on the streaming service WOW *, which was previously called Sky Ticket, and can also be accessed via Sky Q.
The blood flows through stone-molded pathways and canyons reminiscent of ancient Valyria, where the Targs originally came from. In doing so, it “activates” individual sigils that represent individuals from the Dragon family tree. Last is the symbol of Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) before it all comes together in the Targ crest.

While GOT still focused on places and houses of the series in the title sequence, this time it’s a family. This fits the theme of the series, which is heading towards a Targaryen civil war and whose main characters are essentially from the same house. But it is still unfortunate that we have to do without a new Djawadi theme in the intro.
