The new happy news for Frida Karlsson, Ebba Anderson and Jonna Sundling – which can bring a real rain of money

Almost time for a new ski season again.
Then comes a most welcome message.
Here is the decision that can give Swedish skiers a ring in the coffers.

Right now, preparations are in full swing for the new ski season. Although the future of cross-country skiing has been up for discussion due to declining interest and financial panic, expectations are still high for the coming winter.

The new Fis decision

The conditions are clear in that it is a championship-free season and it will therefore put a greater focus on the World Cup. The favorites are of course the Norwegian and Swedish skiers who will do everything to win the overall World Cup as well as the popular Tour de Ski.

Now the International Ski Federation, FIS, is also doing its utmost to raise interest in the new season. In a new decision, the prize money will be increased before the new season.

Increases prize money

When the distance committee and the world cup committee within Fis met in Zurich last week, it was decided to increase the amount of prize money awarded in the world cup. The overall winner on the women’s and men’s side in the World Cup will from now on win 50,000 Swiss francs, approximately 590,000 Swedish kronor.

It can therefore mean a big dent in the coffers for the Swedish hope Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Jonna Sundling which currently has the best chance of winning the overall World Cup next season. The prize money for individual World Cup races will also increase, but here it applies to places 6-20 while the top five in each event will receive the same amount as last season.

The increase in prize money comes at the request of the skiers themselves and this is a way to get more skiers to compete in as many competitions as possible to increase interest in cross-country skiing. New for next season is that prize money will also be awarded to the ten best teams, unlike the top six who previously received prize money in team competitions at the World Cup.
