At the Xbox Showcase on January 23, 2025, those responsible saved the best for last. The new information and gameplay scenes for Doom: The Dark Ages rock.
What was shown? In June 2024 there was the first look at the next trip to hell from the creative minds at id Software. The full metal roar followed at the Xbox Showcase on January 23, 2025 (via YouTube). The developers showed the new direction that The Dark Ages is taking for the iconic Doom series.
While Doom from 2016 was about “Run & Gun” and the sequel Doom: Eternal was about “Jump & Shot”, the third part of the reboot series relies on “Stand & Fight”. Armed with a shield and weapons, you relentlessly grind your way through the hordes of demons like an almost unbreakable tank.
The full almost 12 minutes from the Xbox Showcase:
Your shield plays an extremely important role, which you can throw at enemies like Captain America, use for an attack or for protection. Most of the time you combine this with “some of the most ridiculously powerful firearms” that are said to have ever existed in the Doom series.
If you parry enemy attacks with the shield, you will of course need peacemakers to turn the nearby victims into manageable pieces. The Dark Ages offers you three options: a flail, an electric glove or a hellish mace.
