The new Doom: The Dark Ages was recently presented at the XBOX Games Showcase. While the trailer consists almost entirely of gameplay, players’ interest is more focused on the crazy weapons. Now a developer has commented on this.
What kind of weapons are these? The new “Doom: The Dark Ages” trailer thrilled fans of the series. ID Software showed almost two minutes of gameplay in the trailer. But viewers’ attention was also drawn to the three different weapons that were shown in the trailer.
On YouTube, the following comments can be found under the trailer:

“We are very good at naming.”
What are the names of the weapons in the trailer? Three weapons in particular stand out in the trailer, and Doom’s creative director Hugo Martin also comments on them.
He says the studio set out to “make the weapons feel like the most powerful you’ve ever held in a Doom game, like the Skullcrusher you saw in the teaser.”
The Skullcrusher crushes skulls to fire at enemies. A weapon that only exists in Doom. The studio got creative when naming the weapons. “It’s called the Skullcrusher because it breaks skulls,” he giggles in an interview with Gamesradar.
The creative director also remains true to himself with the other weapons. The shield with a built-in chainsaw is called the shield saw. “Then we have the shield saw, because it is a chainsaw and a shield,” says Martin in an interview.
The last weapon in the trailer is a kind of spear thrower that fires long bolts quickly. “The teaser also shows the rail spike gun – we call it that because it shoots huge spikes,” says Martin. He thinks the team is “very good at naming things.”
When is Doom: The Dark Ages due to be released? The new Doom part is scheduled to launch in 2025. The game is scheduled to appear on PS5, XBOX Series X, PC and Gamepass. This means that the new Doom will be one of the first games from Microsoft to be released on the Playstation. As the name suggests, the game takes you to the Middle Ages.
Another Steam hit even beat Palworld in the survival genre and has now been released on the Playstation 5 after two years in Early Access on Steam. The vampire survival game thrilled PC gamers even before its release and was considered an insider tip until it went completely through the roof when it was released: The survival game V Rising is available on PS5 from today after it started as an insider tip on Steam 2 years ago
