Now there is an end to the criticized goalkeeper loans in ice hockey, as Allsvenskan clubs borrow goalkeepers from SHL clubs who have finished playing for the season.
According to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s new competition rules, the same rules must apply to goalkeepers as to outfield players, which means that seniors cannot go between clubs in any way.
In the past, goalkeepers regardless of age could be loaned out to lower divisions, as the aim was to give young players the opportunity for more playing time.

Hockey Allsvenskan clubs have taken advantage of that. Among other things, Östersund, who borrowed Timrå’s goalkeeper last spring Tim Juel which contributed to Östersund staying in the second highest league.
