The new baseball stadium in Jyvaskyla is ready this

Hippos’ new stadium was completed next to the old one, in place of the former parking lot. The project’s budget was 8.2 million euros, it was exceeded by about 80,000 euros.

You can see the first games in the new stadium on the first weekend of July. The Women’s Superpes will be played there for the first time on Monday 3 July, when Kirittäri will be visited by Pori Pesäkarhut.

Baseball fans have been waiting for a new stadium for a long time. And not least because the grandstand on the new field is covered.

In addition to the covered grandstand, it is also possible to use movable grandstand structures at the stadium. With their help, the capacity can be increased to more than 4,000 spectators. There will be a need for this next summer at the latest, when the East-West matches will be played at the stadium.

Accessibility has also been taken into account in the auditorium. In addition, there are hearing loop places for the hard of hearing.

The stadium’s budget was exceeded by around 80,000 euros. The construction stayed on schedule, even though there were challenges, says the service manager Nikke Tuhkanen Jyväskylä’s sports services.

– There was a three-meter height difference from one end of the field to the other, so there are now 381 poles under the stadium. In addition, retaining walls had to be built on both sides to make the structure last.

Additional costs on top of the budget were also due to the additional work on the elevator intended for the disabled and the increase in the cost of the earthworks contract due to the global situation.

The stadium has gender-neutral toilets for public use. In addition, there is a separate indoor grandstand for e.g. VIP guests, as well as curator and media rooms. Naturally, the players will also have new locker rooms.

The new stadium will see more than just baseball. It will be shown there this summer Matti from Nykäne about the Elämä on Laiffii musical. Male choir Semmarit will also perform there. Converted into an event arena, the new stadium serves approximately 4,000 guests.

Winter use is also planned, for example the field can be frozen for ice skating.
