The Russian Volleyball Association would have liked to have a follow-up agreement with Tuomas Sammelvuo, Secretary General Aleksander Jaremenko told Sport-Express.

Russian media Sport-Express news (switch to another service)that Tuomas Sammelvuo will not continue as head coach of the Russian national volleyball team. The Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Association confirms this to Sport-Express Alexander Jaremenko.
– Everyone understands that Tuomas Sammelvuo will not continue at the helm of the national team, Yaremenko says.
– We would have liked to have a follow-up agreement with him, but that is what it is. Now the new deal is not relevant to Russia due to the lack of national team games or to a coach who could be under a lot of pressure in their home country. Everything went naturally.
The situation of athletes or coaches who worked in Russia changed when Russia invaded Ukraine. For example, most of the Finns who played or coached hockey at KHL returned to Finland.
Sammelvuo’s biggest merits as the coach of the Russian national team were last year’s Olympic silver and the victory of the 2019 League of Nations.
