Sandman on Netflix not only delights as a great comic book adaptation, but also as a stunning fantasy series with a rich mythology to explore. The main character Morpheus or Dream is not only the ruler of the realm of dreams, but also Part of the seven Eternals (originally: the Endless). These seven beings have existed since the beginning of the universe and are more powerful and influential than gods.
We’ve already seen four members of the Eternal Family in the Sandman season opener. But there are three more Eternals in Neil Gaiman’s comic book. In this article we will introduce you to the seven eternal siblings. This will give you a small one Overview of who belongs to Morpheus’ family and what Eternals we might see in Sandman Season 2.

Dream aka Morpheus
Dream is an Eternal of many names. Sandman, Morpheus and Oneiros are just some of them. He is the ruler of dreams, the inhabitants of the dream realm and everything far from reality. Even more powerful than he already is, he has three insignia: a sack full of dream sand, a ruby-colored dream stone and his crown, the helm of dreams.
Dream and humans interact with each other. Your dreams enrich his kingdom. With dreams and nightmares but it can also influence people and their imagination. At first, Dream is arrogant, moody, and downright cruel. Over time, however, he learns to develop and change.

desire
All people want something. They want what they don’t have. And exactly this Desire is desire. In both the comics and the series, Desire is a non-binary being who lives at the heart of a grand palace that is a massive replica of Desire herself. Desire is the Eternals’ evilest sibling, jealous of Dream and Death and has little love for humans themselves. The Eternals in Sandman #3: Despair

despair
Despair is the Twin sister of Desire. Because desperation is often the result when people don’t get what they ask for. She is the ruler over suffering, hopelessness, sadness, fears and thus, as it were, depression personified. Despair and her sibling Desire can’t stand Dream and keep plotting nasty things to make life difficult for him. The Eternals in Sandman #4: Death

death
Death is the eldest sister of the Eternals and Death itself. As long as living beings exist in the universe, Death also exists. Her main task is to visit dying people and take them to the afterlife, in the sunless lands, to accompany. Unlike most other Eternals, she loves her work (now) and embraces her role and purpose. Destruction
Destruction, also known as The Prodigal or The lost one known, was actually mentioned in the 7th episode of the Netflix series. Approximately 300 years before the events of Sandman, he decided to turn his back on his position as Eternal and his family and has been missing ever since. Even his seal (through which the Eternals can contact each other) is no longer there, which attentive Sandman fans can already discover in episode 6 on Desire’s seal wall.
Destruction is, as the name suggests, the embodiment of destruction. However, he is by no means a brutal master of chaos, but sees the end of something as an opportunity for change and the emergence of something new. At some point he wanted his own no longer fulfill their obligations and would rather create than always destroy. It could be a while before we see Destruction in Netflix’s Sandman. In the comics, he can be seen for the first time in Volume 6, which is probably why not expected before Season 3 with Destruction is.
The Eternals in Sandman #6: Delirium

delirium
We haven’t seen Delirium in Sandman season 1 yet, but that could change in season 2. Because for the first time is the youngest sister of the Eternals seen in Volume 4. Once she bore the name delight (in German: Pleasure), however, for unknown reasons, turned into the embodiment of delirium, which is reflected in her restless and unfocused demeanor.

Destiny
Destiny is that in the Neil Gaiman comics eldest member of the Eternal Family and the lord of destiny. He appears as a blind man chained to a book, the Destiny Log, in which all events are written past, present and future are documented. In the comics, Destiny is first seen in Volume 4 at a gathering of the Endless, and is thus expected to make an appearance in Sandman Season 2.
Sandman on Netflix: Can the Eternals Die?
Warning, spoilers for the Sandman comics: Though the Eternals are as old as the universe itself and mightier than gods, they are not immortal. If a member of the family is destroyed, the corresponding post is simply filled again. For example, the Despair we got to see in Season 1 is (in the comics) already the second incarnation of Desire’s twin sister. spoiler end.
