The defense decision from 2020 means that the navy will get four new surface combat ships and four new harbor tugs. So far, the ships are no more than on the drawing board, but the naming is already complete. Delivery of the ships is estimated for 2030.
The new battleships will be larger than the Visby- and Gävle-class corvettes that exist today. As they are still in the construction stage, there are no more precise details about the ships.
This upcoming variant of HMS Norrköping is actually the sixth in the order. The first ship with that name was a 52-gun ship launched in 1698.
