The national team’s new, long-awaited announcement about big star Jonna Sundling – which makes everyone cheer right out

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Jonna Sundling has still not competed in the World Cup this winter.
But just in time for the WC to be around the corner, a long-awaited announcement is now coming.
And also a date to keep an eye on.

Jonna Sundling is the world’s best sprinter. She has proven that in the last Olympics and WC, but in this WC season she has not had the start she wanted. Sundling fell ill during the fall, which caused her to miss the first three World Cup weekends of the season.

Wonderful message

Sundling was also not included during the Tour de Ski around New Year, and the only competitions she has done have been in the Scandinavian Cup in Östersund in December. Then Sundling showed good form, but it is still not an optimal upload before the WC in February.

But now comes a real happy news about the superstar. The national team is now issuing a clear statement that Sundling will compete, and make a comeback in the World Cup, in Livigno on January 21-22. Linn Svahn, who has had major problems with a shoulder injury in recent years, also makes a comeback.

– Now it’s good to train at high altitude before falling. Then that training period ends with the sprint in Livigno, says women’s coach Stefan Thomson to SVT, and continues:

– They get a little kick and a change of environment in the light down there, after training here in the dark.

“The curve went straight up”

Jonna Sundling has admittedly not competed much during the season, but according to Thomson, there is nothing wrong with what she performed during training.

– With Jonna, who so far has not competed in the World Cup, the curve has gone straight up after the period of illness. And after the “Skan Cup” it has continued to rise, says Thomson.

Overall, it looks very good for the Swedish national sprint team. Sundling and Svahn belong to the absolute world elite, and before Christmas Emma Ribom won double competitions, in Raka and Lillehammer. Since then, she has also missed competitions due to illness. But Thomson comes with positive news there as well.

– They are in a good phase before the WC. If we do the right things, it won’t affect the championship to a large extent, he says.
