Torgny Mogren was not immediately floored by the Swedish men’s squad in the WC.
Now the national team is fighting back against the criticism.
– Worst, how grumpy he has become…, says national team manager Anders Byström.
On Tuesday, Sweden took out the squad for the upcoming World Ski Championships, and the focus was above all on the primordial women’s side. There, Linn Svahn took the last place, and overall it is a Swedish squad where pretty much every skater can challenge for medals on their best day. But on the men’s side, it’s not quite the same tone.
The answer after the giant criticism
Skaters like William Poromaa and Calle Halfvarsson have had fantastic seasons so far, but otherwise the breadth is not very impressive. At least that’s what the icon and expert Torgny Mogren thinks, who in Radiosporten is really critical of how the width of the men’s side looks.
Mogren believes that “anyone the hell” could have taken a place in the Swedish men’s squad in the World Cup.
– The national team could have put anyone the hell in, but no one has anything to do with it, says Mogren.
But now the national team is fighting back.
– It’s the worst how grumpy Mogren has become, I don’t know if he’s in a bad mood today…, says Anders Byström.

“Disagree with him”
Anders Byström believes that it is possible to look at the matter differently.
– I do not agree with what he says. You can choose to see it negatively, and criticize the men, but I think we have three who were pre-selected who have a medal chance, and we really need these others too, he says.
Anders Byström believes that skaters like Jens Burman also have good chances to show off more than they did earlier in the season.
– We have very good quality in the squad, and we believe in that, he says.
