The national team career of the Swiss player legend ended

Xherdan Shaqiri has the second most national team games among Swiss players.

A midfielder who is one of the all-time greats of Swiss football Xherdan Shaqiri announced on Monday that his national team career has come to an end. Shaqiri, 32, played 125 international matches, the last of which were the games in this summer’s EC final tournament.

Shaqiri, who represented Bayern Munich and Liverpool in his career and currently plays for Chicago Fire in the United States, made his national team debut at the age of 18 in March 2010. He represented Switzerland in four World Cup finals and three European Championship finals. In the just-ended European Championship in Germany, Switzerland and Shaqiri lost to England in the quarter-finals, in a penalty shoot-out.

There are only more international matches in the Swiss national team than Shaqiri With Granit Xhaka (130). In the national team’s all-time goal statistics, Shaqiri is fourth with 32 hits.
