The national skiing team’s appeal after Linn Svahn’s rampage – wants to change the rules: “We demand an answer…”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Linn Svahn was really upset with the union.
Now they appeal to FIs.
– We demand answers, says cross country manager Lars Öberg.

Linn Svahn made a magical comeback in this weekend’s competitions in Idre Fjäll. She had not competed since April 2021, in just over 600 days, but immediately showed that the form is there when she won the sprint in completely superior style. You might think that everything was peace and joy afterwards, but it wasn’t.

The Union’s appeal

Afterwards, Linn Svahn was really upset with how the national ski team handled her so-called Fis points. The Fis points determine starting positions for the skiers, and Svahn had wanted to freeze the points, but the national ski team had not been able to resolve that, which upset Linn Svahn.

– It is the responsibility of the Skiing Association to ensure that my Fis points remain, they don’t do that now, which puts me in a situation where I don’t get the conditions I deserve, Svahn told Aftonbladet.

Lars Öberg, long distance manager, believes that the association worked hard to resolve Svahn’s Fis points, but that they were rejected. Fis believes that the regulations cannot be changed, and that Svahn’s long absence simply means that the points are gone.

– After that conversation, I also sent in a formal request for Fis to make an exception to the rules and they are processing it now, the outcome of that is not something I can say anything about now, says Öberg to SVT.

“We demand answers”

The national team had hopes that Svahn would compete in this weekend’s World Cup competitions in Davos, but she chose not to. But they still want answers about Svahn’s points as soon as possible, as it affects her in all competitions.

– The hope is a quick decision, we demand an answer before the weekend, says Öberg.

The Fis points determine Linn Svahn’s starting positions. In this weekend’s competitions in Idre, she had to start the sprint qualifying last of all, as she had no results to report, which also means the least amount of rest before the quarter-finals. The lack of Fis points also means that Svahn, if she participated in a mass start, would have started last of all, which would have given her a significantly worse position and starting position in the competition.
