The national skiing team acts after the terrible act in Brussels – Frida Karlsson reveals the new changes: “It’s terrible”

Two Swedes died in a shooting in Brussels in connection with a match for the national football team.
Now the national cross-country skiing team is also taking action.
– It is terrible what has happened, says Frida Karlsson in Sportspegeln.

It was in connection with Sweden’s match against Belgium in the European Championship qualifiers on October 16 that the crime took place in Brussels, roughly five kilometers from the arena where the match was played. Between one and two hours before kick-off, three Swedes were shot, with at least one allegedly wearing a Swedish national team shirt according to Belgian reports.

Janne Andersson’s concern

Two men in their 60s and 70s died, and one person was injured and treated in hospital. The morning after the crime, the perpetrator was found in a cafe where he was shot dead by Belgian police.

When the cross-country skiing star Frida Karlsson visited Sportspegeln, she commented for the first time on the terrible act of terrorism.
– It’s terrible, of course. To be shot when you are supposed to support your team and country is terrible, she says in the program.

Since the shooting, the national football team’s outgoing captain has Jane Andersson expressed great concern about walking dressed in national team clothing outside stadiums, and suggested that the national team will not do so during their matchday walks from now on.

Karlsson about the measures

The national cross-country team will also take measures, says Frida Karlsson.
– We have received updates of the entire organization and some rules of conduct and such. We will travel civilly. I trust that the organization takes responsibility for this

The cross-country team travels a lot during a season, including the World Cup and competitions. Soon the ski season will start, and Frida feels confident about getting started and the journey that awaits.
– What has happened is terrible. But at the same time, we travel to places like Ruka (Finland) or Livigno (Italy). It’s like small shit places and maybe not the worst “terror sites”. In this way, it feels a little safer, but it is clear that what has happened is terrible, she says in SVT.
